ASF Trademark And Logo Guidelines

This document outlines the policy and guidelines of The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) about using or referring to trademarks and logos used to identify the Foundation and any ASF projects or Incubator podlings.

We want to ensure our marks and logos are used in approved ways, while making it easy for our communities to understand the guidelines. If you have any questions about the use of logos or trademarks that are not addressed in these guidelines, then ask us by sending an email to the Apache Public Relations Committee at prc@apache.org.

Rationale

Apache trademarks, logos, and other indicia (marks) are a symbol of the quality and community support that people have come to associate with projects of The Apache Software Foundation. To ensure that ASF marks continue to serve those functions, we must keep some control over their use. Moreover, we want to ensure that the use of our marks will not lead to confusion with other marks. Also, as a US based corporation, we have a legal responsibility to set guidelines for the use of our marks.

People should be able to distinguish when something is from The Apache Software Foundation or one of it's projects, and when it is from another party or an individual. As we prefer our marks not be used to be rude about the ASF, our projects, members, or communities, our marks should also not be used in a disparaging manner.

Who We Are

The Apache Public Relations Committee (PRC) is the formal body within the ASF responsible for setting policy and answering questions about the use of our logos and trademarks, along with other responsibilities. The Committee is made up of elected members of the ASF who have shown merit in the public relations and sponsorship arenas.

The current VP, Public Relations is Jim Jagielski, and there are currently 15 members of the PRC who are all members of the ASF. The ASF Board resolution formally creating the PRC is available as a public record. You may contact the PRC at prc@apache.org. Questions about individual projects should be directed to the appropriate mailing list. You may also contact the ASF or send hardcopy mail as well.
